Our Vision: Transformation Done Right
In South Africa, women of colour are underrepresented in top and senior management roles in the corporate sectors. In 2019, the Commission for Gender Equality (CGE) found that women of colour (WOC) are less likely to be appointed to leadership roles in the private sector. Their advancement into leadership roles has remained stagnant and, to make it worse, there’s a low retention rate of WOC in managerial positions. Barriers include a lack of growth and development opportunities, inadequate training, a failure to provide career pathing and succession plans, and ineffective mentorship programmes.
BGB was founded with the vision to help stimulate a diverse leadership pipeline by increasing the visibility of WOC in corporate, looking to advance and enhance their careers, and provide them with leadership preparation opportunities. The BGB platform and community is geared toward the success of women of colour in corporate South Africa.
